Law Enforcement Bureau:

On behalf of the 170 plus employees assigned to the Law Enforcement Bureau, I welcome you to our respective web pages. The Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Bureau is comprised of three (3) divisions, the Emergency Services Division, Investigations Division, and Patrol Division, all tasked with carrying out the statutory responsibilities of the Sheriff, which include preserving the peace, executing writs, fire warden responsibilities, and search and rescue efforts.

The Emergency Services Division is the smallest of the three divisions but is augmented by several hundred volunteers. This division is tasked with such duties as hazardous material clean up, wildland fire suppression and mitigation, search and rescue missions, and management of the Emergency Operation Center during natural disasters and/or adverse weather. The Investigations Division is tasked with investigating the most serious of crimes and those with discernable crime patterns. This division combines old-fashioned police work with innovative technology in the fields of forensic science and computer science to assist in the investigation of homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, computer crimes, and other major offenses. Lastly, is the Patrol Division, which is the largest of the three (3) divisions and is responsible for patrolling the roughly 1,600 square miles and serving a population of about 165,000 citizens residing in the unincorporated area of El Paso County. In addition to preserving the peace, the division is tasked with a wide array of other responsibilities to include serving civil papers, fugitive apprehension, D.A.R.E., and school resource duties.

Please enjoy the Law Enforcement Bureau web pages and feel free to contact any of the dedicated and professional men and women of the Law Enforcement Bureau.
