The General Investigations Unit consists of one sergeant and three detectives. These detectives are responsible for investigating a majority of the property crimes which occur in the unincorporated area of El Paso County. These cases include but are not limited to: residential burglaries, business burglaries, thefts and motor vehicle thefts.
In 2007, these detectives were also given the responsibility of investigating Equine Animal Cruelty cases. Three detectives were sent to two one-week intensive courses on the investigation of equine animal cruelty. These courses included grading the body conditions of the animals through hands on evaluation.
