Sheriff’s Office Asking for Help in Identifying Suspect in a Shoplifting Case

On Tuesday, March 15, between 11:45 AM-12:26 PM, a male left the Falcon Wal-Mart, 1550 Meridian Market View with a shopping cart that contained two Bostich or Stanley tool sets, a Poulan chainsaw, Bounty paper towels, various clothing and an Easter Basket.

The male was observed putting the items in a red 1997 Chevrolet Camaro bearing license plate QSR-992.  The vehicle was occupied by a female passenger.  The direction of travel is unknown at this time.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Notification of Sexually Violent Predator

In accordance with Colorado law, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the community that Jerrell Jamil Evans has moved to an address in the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction.  Evans is a sex offender whose past behavior has led him to be labeled a “Sexually Violent Predator” (SVP) by the court.  Accordingly, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has made “community notification” as required by law and undertaken the following tasks, among others:

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the whereabouts of Raymond San Nicolas Fernandez, DOB 09/24/1976.  Fernandez has been missing since March 14, 2016.  His last known location was in the area of Marksheffel Road and Drennan Road near Colorado Center.

On Wednesday March 16, 2016, from 4:00 PM-10:00 PM, Texas Roadhouse at 595 8th Street will donate 10% of your total food purchased to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Cadet Program.  The Fundraiser will support the Cadets’ trip to the 2016 Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado (LEEPAAC) Conference.   The conference brings together many of the law enforcement explorer posts in Colorado and nearby states to participate in regional training and competition. 

Local Law Enforcement to Participate in Mental Health First Aid Training

Members of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be joining with other law enforcement agencies for Mental Health First Aid Training, which is being provided by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Peak View Behavioral Health and the Bank of Colorado.  This training will take place on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, from
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, at the Office of the Sheriff, located at 27 E. Vermijo Avenue.

Suspects Sought in Burglary Case

On March 7, 2016, at approximately 5:25 AM, Deputies responded to Couch Circle in reference to a residential burglary.  Witnesses told Deputies they were sleeping in the basement of the home when they woke to a commotion.  They saw unknown males assaulting another resident of the home.  It is unknown how the males entered the home but there was no sign of forced entry.  The victim of the assault was taken to a local hospital,  treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

Men Killed in Plane Crash Identified

On March 2, 2016, at approximately 8:01 AM, The Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received multiple 911 telephone calls reporting that a small aircraft had crashed on the southeast end of Palmer Lake and was on fire.  Law enforcement and fire fighting personnel from the area responded to the scene and found that not only was the aircraft fully engulfed in flames but the surrounding brush was on fire as well.

Arrest Made In 20 Year Old Sexual Assault Case with Additional Victims Possible

Joel Market, DOB: 9/20/67 was arrested on March 1, 2016, in Texas on charges stemming from a 1996 Sexual Assault of a Child case in El Paso County, Colorado.  Detectives believe that Market could have assaulted additional victims in and around El Paso County and Colorado Springs from 1996 to 1998.

 

Market is described as a black male, who is 5’08” tall and was 170lbs at the time.

Sheriff's Office Participating in Colorado Law Enforcement Polar Plunge

The Law Enforcement Polar Plunge is an annual event to help raise funds for the Special Olympics.  The Special Olympics provides impactful sports and leadership opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.  This year's motto is "Freezin for a Reason."

There are 26 members of the Sheriff's Office who will be plunging into Prospect Lake at Memorial Park on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 1:00 P.M.

Sheriff's Office Looking for Suspect in Credit Card Fraud Case

On January 28, 2016, several fraudulent charges were made on a victim’s Navy Federal Credit Union bank account.  The victim does not know how this person obtained her bank account information. Other fraudulent charges were made the same day at a Colorado Springs ATM, and another Walmart in Pueblo.

On Monday, February, 22, 2016, at approximately 1:17 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reference shots fired on Old Stage Road.  Deputies were dispatched to the call as an “Active Shooter”, and multiple units responded.

Marty W. Chandler was reported missing in January of 2016.  Marty is described a white male, who is 6’02” tall, weighs 240lbs, and has brown hair and hazel eyes.  He is often homeless and is known to frequent West Colorado, the west side of Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, the Highway 24 area from Colorado Springs through Cascade, and as far west as Green Mountain Falls.   We are concerned for his safety and would like to confirm that he is alive and well.

On Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 8:40 PM, a suspect walked into the Loaf and Jug, located at 6995 Galley Road.  The suspect approached the clerk at the counter with a black colored semi automatic handgun in his right hand.  He held out a bag in his left hand and demanded cash.   The suspect walked out of the store with an undisclosed amount of money. It is unknown if the suspect left on foot or in a vehicle and his direction of travel is unknown.

Manuel Snodgrass was reported missing in June of 2015, from Bearcat Loop in El Paso County in the area of Marksheffel and Fontaine.    Manuel's date of birth is 12/13/1997, he is 5'9" tall, weighs 160lbs, and has black hair and brown eyes.  He is known to frequent the Security/Widefield area.  His family has not seen or heard from him and are worried about his wellbeing.

Suspect Wanted for Crimes in Multiple Jurisdictions Apprehended

On November 2, 2015, Deputies were dispatched to the 900 block of Tari Drive regarding a home invasion.  Sean Burrows DOB: 4/3/86, was quickly identified as a person of interest and the Sheriff's Office worked with several jurisdictions from across the state and Washington in an effort to locate this individual.

Sheriff’s Office Looking for Suspect Impersonating a Police Officer

On Friday, January 29, 2016, at approximately 12:21 PM, the Sheriff’s Office became aware of a male suspect impersonating a police officer pulling people over in the town of Rush which is located in the eastern portion of El Paso County.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, driving a 2000 model green jeep Cherokee with a red bubble on the top of the vehicle.

Deadly Force Investigations Team Swearing In

Today at 2:30 PM, at the Office of the Sheriff, located at 27 E. Vermijo Avenue, El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder and Teller County Sheriff Mike Ensminger will be swearing in nearly 50 members of the Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to give them jurisdiction in both counties to investigate cases as they relate to the Deadly Force Investigations Team (DFIT).

On January 26, 2016, at 4:23 PM, this unidentified female attempted to shop lift DVDs, and other small items, at the Falcon Wal-Mart located at 11550 Meridian Market View, and was stopped by loss prevention. She was with a male suspect who was arrested on scene, and the unidentified female fled in a white sedan, possibly a Chevy Malibu.

Suspect in Officer Involved Shooting Succumbs to Injuries

On Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at 5:13 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding a disturbance at the 5100 block of Lanagan Street in Colorado Springs.  Responding officers encountered an armed suspect and shots were fired.  The suspect, identified as Dana Bruce Ott, sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.   

Identity of Missing Man Confirmed by Coroner

On January 1, 2016, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office began searching for a missing person, 23 year old Elijah Joe Sharp.  He is 5'11" and weighs approximately 150lbs and has brown hair and brown eyes.  Elijah was last seen by his parents around 9:30 PM, on December 31, 2015, when he left his home after an argument.

At around 12:30 PM, deputies were dispatched to the top of the Incline, approximately 200 yards from the trail where hikers reported finding a deceased male.
